Thomas Cary Johnson (1859-1936) was a Southern Presbyterian minister and the biographer of Robert L. Dabney and Benjamin M. Palmer, amongst others. He selected and arranged the Writings of Thomas E. Peck (3 vols), and wrote a history of the Southern Presbyterian Church, originally published in conjunction with the American Church History series, in 1894. Iain Murray writes that he ‘did splendid work in conserving the records of the Southern Presbyterians’. He was Professor of Ecclesiastical History and Polity at Union Theological Seminary, Hampden-Sydney, Virginia, and was a successor of Peck as Professor of Theology (1913-30) at Union after that institution had moved to Richmond (1898).
