C. R. Vaughan

Clement Read Vaughan (1827-1911) was a life-long friend of Robert Lewis Dabney (q.v.). After serving pastorates in Virginia, and though dogged by ill-health, in 1893 he followed Thomas E. Peck (q.v.), Dabney’s immediate successor, as Professor of Systematic and Polemic Theology at Union Seminary, Richmond, Virginia – initially in an acting capacity, but substantively from May 1894 to May 1896.

Vaughan wrote a number of works, including a Biographical Sketch of Peck included in Volume 3 of the Trust’s reprinting of the Writings of Thomas E. Peck. He also gathered together the various written works of Dabney, which were published under the general title Discussions of Robert L. Dabney. Vaughan’s book The Gifts of the Holy Spirit was reprinted by the Trust in 1975.
